Bridge work to shift traffic on Woodward Avenue
Detroit — Demolition is scheduled to start next week on the Interstate 75 bridge at Woodward Avenue north of downtown Detroit.
M-1 Rail Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs says southbound traffic will be shifted Tuesday to Woodward’s northbound lanes over I-75. Northbound traffic, southbound traffic and the center turn lane will be on the east side of Woodward.
The demolition and reconstruction of the bridge is being coordinated with the commuter light rail project. The 3.3 mile, $140-million streetcar project is scheduled for completion in late 2016. It is expected to spur economic and job growth along the Woodward Corridor.
Construction on the M-1 Rail started in late July. The federal government has committed $25 million to the project. Other funding comes from foundations and businesses.
