Child hospitalized after being thrown off dirt bike operated by father
A 5-year-old child was hospitalized with numerous injuries after being ejected off and possibly run over by a dirt bike driven by the father in Macomb Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon on Garfield, north of Hall Road, where a 27-year-old Macomb Township man was “jumping” hills with the child on a KTM mini dirt bike, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
A woman who was driving by told deputies she saw the man do two or three jumps with the child on the bike, and on the last jump, the child flew off the bike and the child’s helmet popped off. She and another witness said they thought that the motorcycle ran over the child.
The child was taken to McLaren Hospital in Mt. Clemens and subsequently transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit for further treatment, police said.
The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate and charges are likely against the father.
